Physical Abuse

A type of abuse that includes any forceful behavior such as hitting, choking, slapping, using weapons, driving recklessly, holding you down, and preventing you from leaving.

Sexual Abuse

A form of physical abuse that can include forced or coerced sex with your partner, another person, or an object.

Psychological Abuse

A type of abuse that includes playing mind games with you, twisting everything around so nothing is their fault and all of their behavior was caused by something you did or didn’t do, accusing you of doing things that they are doing, lying, manipulating you for control or sex, threatening to “out” you to parents, friends, classmates, distorting reality so you think you are losing your mind.

Emotional Abuse

A form of psychological abuse that includes threats including standing over you, isolation from other aspects of your life, manipulation, insults, destruction of property, public humiliation, and accusations of affairs, threats of suicide, self-injury, or homicide if you leave.

Verbal Abuse

A form of psychological abuse that includes name-calling, telling you that you are worthless, that you are a bad parent, shouting, constantly interrupting, telling other people that you are crazy, blaming you for the abuse.

Financial Abuse

A type of abuse that includes controlling all income, not letting you work or keep a job, making you ask for money, giving an allowance, taking your money, or running up debt under your name.
